With Mother’s Day just around the corner, we thought we’d look at some of the ways we can ALL help around the house. From organising to home maintenance, there’s a job for everyone!
1. Put your dishes away
You know the coffee table, well, it’s not a home for leftover plates and cups. Ensure these are returned to the kitchen as soon as you’re finished using them.
2. Toss out newspapers and magazines
Junk mail has a way of building up – do a nighty ‘sweep’ of the house to ensure that old newspapers and magazines are recycled.
3. Give the bathroom sink a wipe
Germs and bacteria build up easily – keep a cloth in close proximity to the bathroom sink so you can give it a quick wipe after each use.
4. Cull excess belongings
Get in mum’s good books by culling excess belongings before she asks you to. Remember to donate high quality items to charity and toss the rest.
5. Give the house a once over
When is the last time the smoke detector batteries were replaced? What about your remote controls? These small, yet simple tasks can remove a lot of stress.
6. Back up electronic files
No one wants to waste an afternoon backing up their computer, but it needs to be done. Simplify the family’s life by taking initiative and getting the cloud based or external storage sorted.
7. Clean inside of cupboards (we’re looking at you, pantry!)
It’s incredibly easy to forget about the inside of cupboards when giving the house a once over. We recommend picking a section, like the pantry, and getting to work with a bucket of warm soapy water.
8. Sweep the garage
Another often neglected spot is the home garage. Make it a priority to give the garage a thorough sweep. If you’re extra keen, consider washing the floors too.
9. Do the laundry
Need we say more?
10. Remember to treat mum
Finally, no matter what you do or don’t do around the house, remember to treat mum this Mother’s Day. Whether it’s breakfast in bed or a handmade card, a small gesture goes a long way!
