If you’re like most people, you probably have to deal with stains and unpleasant laundry on a regular basis.
But, do you often find yourself standing in the supermarket looking around at the shelves of products wondering where to even begin?
Getting your clothes clean doesn’t need to be tricky or involve a complicated trip to the supermarket.
With a few natural laundry remedies – made from items around the house – you can guarantee you and your family will never be without clean, fresh smelling clothes!
1. Use baking soda to soften clothes
Simply add ¼ cup of baking soda to the machine as it fills with water. Allow the baking soda to dissolve before adding your clothes to the machine. This will assist in keeping the soft and reducing unpleasant odours that may build up.
2. Remove tomato based stains with white vinegar
Does your family have a liking for tomatoes or tomato sauce? Are they occasionally messy? If the dreaded tomato based stains happen, pour white vinegar directly onto the stain and then wash the item of clothing immediately. Ta-da! No more stain.
3. Cure ink stains with rubbing alcohol
Soak stained items in rubbing alcohol for 30 minutes and wash. Alternatively, if you don’t have success with rubbing alcohol, spray hairspray onto the stain and wash. Now watch those stains disappear!
4. Use lavender essence or oil to disinfect clothes
Lavender is generally known for it’s aroma, but it can also be used as a easy fabric sanitizer because it contains anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial properties. Simply add one or two drops of lavender essence or oil, along with unscented washing powder to your next load. Not only will your clothes be disinfected, they’ll smell lovely too.
5. Reduce clothing static with vinegar in the dryer
Spray a clean wash cloth, piece of cloth, or garment of clothing with white vinegar and toss into the dryer along with everything else. The vinegar in the dryer will reduce static and once the clothes are dry the vinegar smell will also be gone.
6. For a thorough clean use hot water – the ultimate in laundry remedies
We often use the cold water cycle on the washing machine to save on electricity. If you feel your clothes are not coming out of the washing machine as clean as they used to, it may be time to try a hot cycle. Hot cycles work to disinfect clothes and keep them super clean.
