Are you looking for a way to start the new year right and feel great about your home?
You’re in luck – 2023 is the perfect time to make your home sorted and keep it that way. Here we share six new year’s resolutions for your home. Follow these or use them as inspiration to create your own.
Sort wardrobes seasonally
How often do you open your wardrobe doors only to be faced with endless clothes? Sun dresses and winter coats are fighting for space. There are shoes and handbags sandwiched into gaps and it’s a struggle to find anything you need.
This new year, commit to sorting your wardrobe seasonally. What this means is creating storage (we love vacuum seal bags) for clothing that is not needed for the current season. Store winter coats during summer and sun dresses during winter to save space and create order.
Organise the pantry
Is your pantry picture perfect or a cluttered mess? If you’re wishing for a sorted space, set aside an afternoon to declutter, sort, and store your pantry items in a system that you’ll use and follow.
We love air tight containers for dry goods, baskets for pre packaged food, and even an in-pantry lazy Susan for spices or jars.
Double check home maintenance
When was the last time you completed general home maintenance? The new year is the ideal time to clean your ducted heating or air conditioning systems. We also recommend checking smoke detectors and doing a once-over of your complete home and fixing any loose items or damaged spaces.
Create a filing system
Do you have a filing system that you religiously follow? This goes for paper and electronic. If you’re nodding yes, skip ahead. If not, spend a few hours creating one before the new year strikes. Not only will you thank yourself for being able to find important documents when you need them, but you’ll be extra thankful when tax time rolls around.
Just be sure to create a simple system that you are going to follow. There’s no point creating something elaborate if you’re going to toss it aside before February.
Donate what is no longer needed
When sorting your home, keep a box or garbage bag handy for items that can be donated to the less fortunate. While this may not seem like a new year’s resolution… getting into the spirit of helping others is a sure fire way to start the new year feeling good (and sorted!).
Build lifelong habits
Finally, start the new year with the intention of building lifelong habits. These can be taking out the rubbish each day, completing a load of washing each morning, folding the washing as soon as you take it off the clothes line so it doesn’t sit in the washing basket for weeks, or splitting the cooking load between members of the family.
No matter what you choose, these lifelong habits are intended to make life easier and better. What can you add to make your life and home sorted?
