With the weather warming up there’s no excuse to spend yet another weekend indoors. Get outside and explore all that nature has to offer with these fun suggestions for outdoor activities.
1. Go for a bike ride
We all know that exercise is good for adults and children alike. With society living a more sedentary lifestyle it’s important to put in extra effort in ensuring our fitness is not forgotten.
So gather the kids, dust off your bikes and start riding. You don’t need a destination in mind, just get outside!
2. Eat delicious food at a picnic
What’s better than delicious food? Eating delicious food on a picnic rug in the sunshine with loved ones. Pick a Saturday or Sunday and fill your picnic basket with everything you can imagine. Keep it healthy, with a few indulgent snacks and lots of fruit.
Picnics are fun for the whole family.
3. Discover a new playground
It get’s tiring using the same toys or play equipment again and again. Instead, jump on google and have a browse of what hidden gems are located in your local community. There could be a playground paradise two streets away that you never knew about.
4. Play team sports with the family
Team sports are great for building spirt and healthy competition. Whether it’s footy, cricket, basketball, or throwing a Frisbee around the backyard, weekends are the perfect time to indulge in some family sport time.
Alternate the sports you play depending on what you and your kids like. You may also consider making the sport as realistic as possible by creating a round-robin style game with a reward for the winner at the end.
5. Go to the beach
Who doesn’t love the beach? Even pets love the beach usually. It doesn’t have to be the middle of summer to enjoy the elements of a day at the beach. Bundle the family into the car and off on a beach adventure.
You may consider using some of the above ideas for a beach day. Team sports and a picnic sound fantastic, don’t they?
Just remember sunscreen, as even overcast days can be lethal on unprotected skin.
6. Head inland and hike
With so many trails and nature walks at out fingertips, it seems somewhat cruel not to take part in them. Pick a trail and go for a nice long hike/walk. Take the family, or just enjoy the day with your partner.
Either way, simply make sure you’re spending some of your weekend doing outdoor activities!
