With summer fast approaching, now is the time to start planning your home sorting projects.
To get the ball rolling, we’re sharing eight ideas you can get started on today.
1. Pack away your winter clothes
One project that should be at the top of your list is sorting and storing seasonal clothes. Remove any items that no longer fit, are damaged, or no longer your style, before storing the remaining items in airtight containers or vacuum seal bags.
2. Sort your pantry
Give your kitchen a much-needed summer refresh by sorting your pantry. Consider storing perishable items in airtight containers or glass jars. We also love using labels to keep everything sorted.
3. Declutter your kids’ toys
Does the thought of Christmas and new toys make you cringe? Get on top of the clutter by decluttering your kids’ toys before December 25. You can donate good quality items that are no longer played with to charity or try your luck selling online using Facebook Marketplace or eBay.
4. Organise your laundry
No, we don’t mean the laundry sitting in your washing basket. Instead, organise your laundry by ensuring all items have a place and that you have a system to get your washing done! We also love decanting washing powder into glass jars and using a three-washing basket system – one for whites, colours, and blacks.
5. Sort and stock your medicine cabinet
Do you find yourself reaching for Band-aids more frequently over the summer school holidays? Whether you have accident prone kids or just need to refresh your medicine cabinet – this is always a worthy project.
Be sure to stock up on everyday essentials such as Band-Aids, small bandages, and antiseptic cream. You can’t go wrong with these on hand.
6. Declutter your linen cupboard
Summer means one thing: beach towels! Take this as your reminder to declutter your linen cupboard. Most people are storing many towels and bed linen that they no longer need or use. Consider donating your decluttered items to charity, or for lower quality items, chop into cleaning rags for use within the home garage.
7. Sort your home garage
Speaking of your home garage – when was the last time you sorted the space and gave the floor a good clean? If you can’t remember, then this is the perfect home sorting project for you. If you have kids, you will also be able to organise bikes and sporting equipment before the summer heat really sets in.
8. Complete general home maintenance
Home sorting ideas can also include general home maintenance. Do a once over of your home, open windows to allow air to flow freely, and check smoke detector batteries. Sometimes the simplest of tasks can have the biggest impact.
