How often do you look at Pinterest and think to yourself “my house will never look like that”?
Probably more times than you care to admit. But the truth is, your home can look picture perfect and it’s simple to achieve. The number one trick is ensuring that you avoid clutter at ALL times.
Start with a clean slate
The easiest way to avoid clutter in your home is to start with a clean slate. Spend a weekend or two decluttering your entire home.
We know it will take time and dedication to get through every room in your home, but you will thank yourself once the job is done!
Ensure that every item has a home
Now that you’ve decluttered, it’s very important to ensure that every item you own has its own home.
This means that your coffee table shouldn’t be covered in random books or knick-knacks. Your shoes will also have a home to be returned to at the end of each day.
Use daily habits to stay on top of clutter
The easiest way to stay on top of clutter is to ensure that you have daily habits in place.
For starters, we recommend implementing these great habits:
• Clean the kitchen after each meal
If you get in the habit of tidying up after each meal, you don’t leave enough time for clutter to build up. Doesn’t that make sense and sound fantastic?
• Put everything back in its place
As soon as you’re done using something (or when you take your shoes off each day) ensure that you put each item back in their designated place.
It may sound like a lot of effort, but trust us. Once you’re in the habit of putting items away as soon as you’re done with them, you won’t even notice you’re doing it.
Create electronic copies of important paperwork
It’s super important to have a backup copy of all your important paperwork – but you can even take this one step further and keep all your files electronically. Think about it – one external hard drive is a lot smaller than a couple of filing cases.
Declutter regularly
Lastly, you can’t expect your home to remain clutter free if you don’t declutter regularly!
Designate one or two hours each month to stay on top of your home and before you know it, your home will resemble a super-sorted Pinterest home!
