christmas stress

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year – it’s also one of the most stressful. However, with a few easy adjustments you can stay organised and sorted through the entire festive season. Which will hopefully keep stress at bay. Isn’t that enticing?

1. Plan everything in advance

You cannot deny the power of a good planning session. Spend an hour or two planning and writing lists for everything that needs to be done and purchased this festive season. Not only will having a plan of attack help reduce stress, but taking shopping lists to the shops is a sure fire way to get in and out as quickly as possible without drifting off course.

2. Listen to music

Music has the power to soothe and create positive emotions. If you feel yourself starting to get stressed, stop what you’re doing, throw on some of your favourite music and think about nothing but the beat. Let your worries slip away.

Christmas carols are also known to help some people relax with their joyful nature.

3. Get your heart rate up

Exercise is a proven stress reliever and the festive season is no exception. If you feel everything starting to get too much, lace up your walking shoes and head outside for some fresh air and endorphins. A short brisk walk is all it takes to calm your mind and centre your emotions.

4. Stop and breathe

With all the excitement of Christmas it can be easy to forget to stop and breathe every once in a while. We’re not machines – we can’t be on the go constantly without any form of stress or burnout. Take five minutes each day for yourself and sit in a quiet space and just breathe. Focus on slowing your breath as you breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. You can also use this time to meditate if it helps you.

5. Eat healthy nutritious meals

Like the post above, it can be easy to let things slip during the festive season. Whilst you may be incredibly busy always ensure that you make time to feed your body healthy nutritious meals.

A great idea is snacking on extra protein as this will keep you full longer. You can also prepare healthy meals in advance so you always have something ready and waiting in the refrigerator.

Lastly, remember all the fun moments the festive season creates. Don’t let stress dull the sparkle of these moments this year!
