Home maintenance is one of those activities we all know we need to do, but rarely prioritise.
And as the weather gets warmer, the importance of tackling maintenance around the home only increases!
If you’re not sure where to begin, rest assured. We’ve created this handy blog to include some of the most common home maintenance activities that every household can implement.
1. Test smoke alarms and replace batteries
This one should be a no-brainer but use a broom handle to ensure that smoke alarms are activated and working. We also recommend replacing batteries yearly, each spring, to ensure that you don’t get caught unaware.
2. Clean leaves and debris from gutters
Long winters are the perfect catalyst for gutter clutter! For this reason, spring is the perfect time to get your hands dirty removing leaves and debris from gutters around your roof. This will also ensure that your water removal system is acting as efficiently as possible.
3. Wash window screens
We love using spring as a time to 100% refresh our home! This includes giving window and door flyscreens a solid wash! A great way to do this is by filling a bucket up with soapy water and working your way around the house.
If your flyscreens are removable you may also choose to designate an area outside to wash and dry each screen before placing back in its original spot. If you’re choosing this open, make sure you pick a sunny day and take note of where each screen comes from. You don’t want to spend hours figuring out which one belongs where!
4. Power wash windows
Along with washing flyscreens, spring is the perfect time to give your windows a thorough clean with a high-quality window cleaner. You’ll feel even more excited for the warmer months as you look outdoors through sparking windows – trust us on this one!
5. Service your heating and cooling systems
Finally, we recommend booking your annual heating and cooling system service each spring. This will ensure that you’re not running a heating or cooling system with defects that are costing you money.
Are you ready to tackle your spring home maintenance now? We sure hope so! Go on, do us proud.
