Get the cleaning supplies ready
Spring organising will always involve an element of cleaning. For this reason, we advise that you take stock of your current cleaning supplies and fill any gaps. The must haves to look out for are an all-purpose cleaner, bleach, glass cleaner, stain remover, gloves and cleaning cloths.
If you’re extra keen you can choose to make your own all-purpose cleaner by filling a spray bottle with 50% water and 50% vinegar. If you find the smell too potent, simply reduce the amount of vinegar in the bottle and you’re good to go.
Create a plan
Next up, we recommend creating a plan of attack for your spring organising adventure.
At the outset, it’s a good idea to remember that spring organising doesn’t have to happen (and probably won’t) in a single weekend. You can choose to split your organising across a number of weekends, days or key areas that require the most attention.
Another technique is writing your plan of attack onto a large wall chart. This can help you visualise what needs to done and which family members can be accountable for the area.
Start decluttering as soon as possible
Finally, a great way to make the process smooth is to start decluttering as soon as possible.
Simply grab yourself a garbage bag or large box and move between each room in your home removing items you no longer need. This also includes getting rid of any trash that may have unknowingly built up. We’ve found in the past that completing this step makes it so much easier to do an ‘official’ declutter as you only have the tricky items to focus on now.
