Have you started to prepare your home?

The festive season is always busy. Most families have a never-ending to-do list of events to attend and people to see.

Taking time to prepare your home for Christmas may not seem like a priority now, but these simple tips could mean the difference between a not-so jolly and joyful Christmas.

Declutter, declutter, declutter

While we firmly believe you should declutter your home all year, it’s especially important during the festive season. Christmas usually brings a fresh set of toys and belongings into your home. These items will need somewhere to live which is only going to be more difficult if your home is cluttered to begin with.

Solve the problem by setting aside a couple of afternoons to declutter the problem areas of your home. You’ll be thankful for the extra space and order throughout Christmas and into the new year.

Decorate your home

There is nothing more significant than decorating your home at Christmas. This allows joy to flow into each room and excites small children as they help trim the tree!

Keep your decorations simple by choosing a colour theme for your entire home. You may also enlist the help of your children (or Christmas elves as we like to call them) in creating handmade decorations full of meaning. Either way, decorating your home is a simple and effective way to prepare for Christmas.

Stock your pantry

Last minute entertaining can be bundles of fun or filled with stress. It all depends on how you prepare yourself and your pantry. We recommend stocking up on non-perishable items in the weeks leading up to Christmas. This is as easy as throwing a few extra packets of snack food into your grocery shop each week. You may also choose to cook and freeze a handful of simple meals for busy nights or when unexpected guests arrive.

Prepare for overnight guests

If you’re having guests this holiday season, it’s also time to prepare your guest room. Open windows, change the bed linen, ensure there is space within the wardrobe and set out a pile of towels. Getting this sorted early means you won’t be rushing around at the last minute or feeling exhausted when your guests finally arrive.

Play Christmas music

Lastly, our foolproof way to prepare for Christmas is to get the party started with some Christmas music! Pop together a playlist of your favourite carols and set it to shuffle while you cook, clean, and enjoy time with your family. You can even bring the playlist along with you in the car for an extra dose of Christmas cheer!
