Spring has arrived – as the days start to get a little warmer, it’s also the perfect time to declutter and organise your wardrobe.
1. Remove everything from your wardrobe
To spring organise your wardrobe, you must first remove all clothing items and shoes from your wardrobe. Take your time and place everything across your bed – keeping items spread out so you can see exactly what you own.
2. De-clutter clothes you never wear
Now is the time to be ruthless and de-clutter your wardrobe of items you never wear, or know deep down that you won’t wear again!
As you sort through your clothes place items into different piles. Our suggestions include a pile to donate and one for the trash. As a rule of thumb you should never donate clothing items to charity that are in unwearable condition. These items must be thrown in the trash or torn up as rags/cleaning cloths.
3. Sort and store seasonal clothing
Winter coats are a huge drain on wardrobe space. They’re big and bulky and often take up the same space as four or five dresses. Sort and store seasonal clothing that you won’t need until next year. This can also include scarves and gloves.
Consider using vacuum bags to further save space. Once these are filled and shrunk down in size, they are easily stored beneath beds, on top of wardrobes, or in the garage. Another option is a large air tight container – you need your storage to be air tight to keep dust and dew from attacking your clothes.
4. Hang clothes by type
Hang clothes by type as you move them back into your wardrobe. Start with small items like singlets and tops and then move towards skirts, pants, dresses and jackets. Coats should be in storage by now!
This will save you oodles of time getting dressed in the morning!
5. Sort and repair shoes and bags
Spring organising time is the perfect time to attend to any damaged items within your wardrobe. Most commonly these are our shoes. Get overly worn shoes resoled and toss any that you haven’t worn in the last 12 months. You won’t regret it one bit.
6. Stand back and enjoy!
Finally, it’s time to stand back and enjoy the hard work that spring organising has achieved. It can be a long process getting your home in order each spring. But at the end of the month, you know deep down that you’re going to feel more relaxed and ready to tackle life’s challenges.
