“I’ve been trying to get my glassware clean for weeks now. I don’t have a dishwasher, so I’m stuck washing everything the old fashioned way. Do you have any advice on getting some sparkle back into my dishes?”

There’s nothing worse than spending good money on wine glasses and glass serving wear than to find it constantly streaked, caked in grime, and feeling lacklustre after washing. We’re definitely with you on that one.

Luckily, there are a few tricks for washing and keeping your glassware shiny and new.

Get clean with baking soda and dishwashing liquid

Soap up your glassware with baking soda and dishwashing liquid then leave to soak for 15 minutes. This is particularly great for dishes covered in food stains that keep multiplying after each use. You know the ones.

Once your dish is soaked, start scrubbing the stains. The abrasiveness of baking soda will help to break down the filth quickly and easily. Give it a final rinse to reveal a dish that looks as if it was purchased that very same day.

Escape messy glass streaks

Some people swear by air-drying their glassware and won’t budge an inch. However, to ensure that no spots remain on the glass, consider drying them with a soft towel and popping them back into the cupboard immediately after washing. This way dust particles don’t have a chance to settle on your newly clean surface.

Avoid future food stains

Prevention is the best tip for dealing with unruly, unclean glassware.

Try and wipe glass products as soon as they’ve been used to stop food and grime from settling in and making themselves at home. We know this isn’t always easy! You’ve just spent ages making dinner for the family, so the last thing you’ll want to do is start tidying up as everyone sits down at the table to eat.

Think about installing a system where one person wipes the dishes as another serves up the meal. Small changes like this can make washing up a breeze.

Finally, Don’t forget to be creative! These glass-cleaning techniques can be applied to other areas of the home that contain glass surfaces. There is no reason why your whole home can’t shine bright.
