Do you have guests coming to stay for the holidays? Maybe you’ve been neglecting the upkeep of your guest room? Or perhaps you’d love to spruce up the spare room you have?
The idea of a great guest room is one where the guest feels 100% at home. This can be achieved with a handful of simple tweaks that we outline below.
1. Remove clutter from the area
Start by removing any and all clutter from the room. It can be very tempting to use your guest room as a storage zone for everything that doesn’t have a home elsewhere, but this will only end in disaster.
A better approach is to declutter your guest room to ensure that guests have enough space to store their own items. (More on this later…)
2. Check that everything works
After you’ve decluttered your guest room, you should complete a quick check to ensure that everything is in working order. If you want to be extra thorough, consider sleeping in the guest room for a night. This is an easy way to figure out if you have adequate bedding and that all electronics are functioning.
3. Ensure you have fresh linen and towels
Use the next sunny day to thoroughly air out your guest room and change all bed linen. You should also provide guests with towels for their stay. We love leaving these on the end of the bed, so they don’t need to bother the host.
4. Create a mini-wardrobe with a clothing rack
Does your guest room have a wardrobe? If this is the case, consider clearing out a small section so your guests have a space to hang items that crease easily. Alternatively, you can provide guests with a small clothing rack or over door storage hooks. These are easily obtained from most home improvement stores.
5. Clear one or two drawers
We also recommend clearing out one or two drawers for your guests to use. Most people don’t like living out of a suitcase and this enables them to feel that little bit more at home for the length of their stay!
